Scroll Down a Bit

We have had enough new posts that you will have to do more than scroll down.  At the bottom of this page you will see a “Next Page” link.  You will have to click on that to find  “Biblical Scholars on YouTube.”  Check out “John Walton on Genesis and Cosmology.”  Walton is the author of one of our textbooks.  Watch his video and post a comment.

By the way, are any of you old enough to remember “The Waltons” on TV?

If so, you may want to say,

“Good night, John boy.”

One Response

  1. Walton stresses the importance of realizing that the text was written to ancient Israel. All too often we impose our worldview on the text. Walton goes on to say that to communicate we must interface with the culture. Understanding the intent of the communication to the original audience allows for better application.

The focus on function as opposed to material explains the approach that Jesus applied to His ministry that we see in the New Testament. This has expanded my view of consideration for the ancient world viewpoint that would have been present when Jesus spoke in the temple during the Feast of Tabernacles (John 7). This is apparent as well when you look at Isaiah 58 from a functional perspective. Too often today we do Church from a material perspective and not a functional approach.
